Yoga has been a huge part of my life over the last few years. It has taught me so much about myself and has acted as a great stress reliever when I find myself to be too busy to focus. As working women we're busy! And because of that it's important to find something that we enjoy, something that makes our souls happy. It's even more important to make time for it regardless of how busy we are.
I found yoga when I became so busy that I couldn't shut my brain off at night to fall asleep. Since then, I've been hooked. While I don't practice yoga every single day, I do try to make it a priority and get a flow in at least a few times a week. On those days where I can't seem to make a decision because I have a to-do list a mile long, I take a break, put on a YouTube yoga video, and decompress for a bit.
To make time for my practice and to make the most of it, I have a few tricks up my sleeve!
Tip 1: Motivate Yourself
Being motivated to actually do yoga (or workout in general) is key. Reading a mantra, having a vision board or having a motivational quote in your office is a great way to kick your butt in gear. Something that makes you think, "I need to take care of myself today. Even if only for 10 minutes, I'm going to take time for me." will help you shift your mentality and push you to find the time.
If you need help finding that thing that motivates you, try hanging a motivational print on your wall. Every time you glance at it you'll be reminded and motivated to do yoga, workout, get outdoors or do whatever it is that allows you to decompress.
Tip 2: Be Prepared
Once you're motivated to actually practice yoga, there's nothing that kills motivation faster than having to pack a bag or get ready. We've already discussed how our time is limited so you don't want to waste that time gathering your yoga mat, your hair elastic, and anything else you might need during your practice.
For when motivation strikes, make sure you're already prepared for your practice. Stash all of your small necessities in a bag, have your yoga clothes close by, and have your mat in an easy to carry over-the-shoulder bag.
Try our makeup bags to hold all of your small necessities like a hair elastic, bobby pins, makeup remover, concealer, and mascara. During class, toss your keys and jewelry into the bag so you know exactly where to find them when you're done!
Tip 3: Do Yoga Anywhere
Yoga is a practice that takes up very little space. You can do yoga pretty much anywhere - in a studio or at home, indoors or outdoors. You can even do yoga in an airport! As long as you have a space big enough to stretch your arms and legs out in, you can practice yoga (so there are no excuses!).
For those home practices, pull up a YouTube video and light a stress relieving candle. We love lavender or eucalyptus candles because they induce a calm sense and really allow you to focus on yourself, your body, and your practice.
Be sure to take time for you!
